OUR MISSION To encourage parent and public involvement in our school. To promote and support the education, health, and safety of our students.
Where does the money go? Academic and student enrichment programs Technology purchases Student clubs and extracurricular activities Teacher supply grants Communication supplies Landscaping and grounds Parent and family involvement events Staff/volunteer appreciation and recognition Staff Development grantsWhat is Action Council? This committee is comprised of PTSA Officers, teacher and parent representatives, and a school administrator. The Action Council meets monthly to organize events, discuss fundraising, evaluate ways to involve parents and the community in the school, and address how to support the education of the students at PHS.Why attend the quarterly PTSA General Meetings? The PTSA usually tries to invite a guest speaker or have a family friendly event on the evenings of PTSA General Meetings. The discussion is brief and mostly informative for parents and staff. Often, at these meetings, the general membership is required to vote on such items as the budget, officer elections, or other major decisions requiring a quorum. What is the School Improvement Team? This committee is comprised of faculty, staff, and parents. The team sets goals and designs strategies for improvement the following areas: student academic performance, health and safety, quality teaching, community and parent support, and overall school operation. Long-term goals of the PTSA Increase membership by 5% annually. Goal is 50% of parent population. Involve the community in PTSA activities and fundraisers. Increase parent involvement. Broaden educational, cultural, and recreational experiences for all students. Promote achievement for all students. Recognize and show appreciation for school staff.Short-term goals of the PTSA Increase membership in PTSA to 175 members. Host at least two family events at PHS. Increase participation in grocery certificate program, raise at least $25,000. Increase participation in Thrift Shop program, earn at least 2500 volunteer hours. Keep parents/staff informed.If I join the PTSA, what do I get? Right to vote on all PTSA issues Free childcare at PTSA meetings Free parents night out Free one-year trial subscription to the online national magazine Our Children National PTA Weekly electronic newsletter This Week in Washington electronic newsletter Exclusive discounts, special offers, promotions, parent resources, and leadership training from the National PTA. Participation in a national PTA network that provides direct contact by PTA members with members of Congress andother federal agencies.Relationship between the PTSA and the school The administration and faculty welcome parents to participate at PHS. Opportunities to volunteer during the school day are abundant. Short on time? You can stop by for lunch with your child(ren). Attend family events, athletic contests, assemblies, performances, and awards ceremonies. Stop by the office and visit with the office staff and administrators. If we all work together, we will continue to have a great school!
